maha pirith deshana

This is from one of my favorite places in Sri Lanka: Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara.
The murals in the background were done by Soliyas Mendis at the turn of last century. He used a combination of traditional styles and modern sensibilities to come up with a more illustrative, yet sublime style. This temple is in a very busy area, but manages to retain some measure of peace. Specially inside the vihara

When I was there a German monk came in to meditate next to the main altar which contains Buddha dhatu (relics).
